Norcross Gem and Mineral Show
December 11 -13 2009
Show Report

This is a little late getting posted but with Christmas and all I just have not had time to write this up. AND this is a first for the Firebird Web Site so I hope you can forgive me a little.

Norcross is located in northern Atlanta on I-85. The show is in the North Atlanta Trade Center and has been for several years. It was originally a club show but three years ago the club decided that they could no longer do the show. A dealer, Richard Hightower, decided to take the show over and produce it. We all owe him a round of thanks for keeping a quality show alive. Their web site is www.mammothrock.com .mmothrock.commothrock.com

I packed the van and was ready to go Thursday noon.

Set up is always a joy.

Most dealers had arrived earlier in the day and were almost finished setting up when I arrived.
There were several fossil dealers with some outstanding items for sale. DinoLand Plus, Alan Stout http://www.dinolandplus.com/ was just across the way from me. I am not a fossil collector but was very tempted by what Alan had.

Gone Fishing Fossils - David Bland - Fossilized fish from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. Also stone carvings and assorted fossils.

This is a pink and black calcite fish carving from China he had.

The Stones & Bones Collection Richard & Janice Hightower http://www.stonesbones.com/ Our show Producers.

This is Janice Hightower

Since the other one was Janice you must know this is Richard.

Richard has an outstanding selection of Petrified Pine Cones.

Now just a few general pictures of dealers and their stock.

This Ruby was all of 6 inches across and must have weighed in excess of 3 pounds!

Larimar USA Inc. Frank & Margie Gravina

TJ's Rock's & Gemcrafts TJ Ennis TJEnnis91@hotmail.com had some blue garnets in mica. Prices ranged from $15 to several hundred. They were BLUE!

He also had Sodalite and Nepheline. Sorry the picture is so bad but the crystals were wonderful!

Riviera Fine Minerals Denny Lawing was set up next to me sharing a booth
with Steve Denny had a large excellent Thompsonite available.

I did have a few folks wanting to look at my rocks!

The gentleman on the left is Dr. Arvid Eric Pasto who has just published this year "Collector's Guide to Fluorite". Excellent book. The other gentleman is Dr Robert J. Lauf who has published "Collector's Guide to the Vesuvianite Group", Collector's Guide to the Axinite Group" and several other excellent mineral books. I recommend them highly. If any one wants one let me know and I will e-mail you the publishers' address.

That is all I can tell about the show this time. Will try to do better on the next one. Until I see you again be safe and good collecting!
