Good day to you all! My name is Danny Jones and I own Firebird Minerals Inc. Born in Gods country, the mountains of North Carolina, received an MBA in Business from the University of Georgia and currently working a full time job in banking in Charlotte, NC.
I have been collecting rocks since I was four years old. No I will not tell you how long that has been but it has been a number of years. I collect for my own pleasure. Did some digging with my father when he was alive. My mother being the beneficiary of much of our work in a lot of jewelry from the ruby mines of North Carolina.
I was my mothers care giver until her passing in 2000 at age 86. She was active until the last six months of her life. In fact we had gone west on vacation and a rock hunting trip in the fall of 1999 before her passing in the spring. She and my father were always supportive of my hobby and helped me along the way. Many a show judge felt her wrath when I did not get the blue ribbon she though I deserved.
I currently live in a bedroom community of Charlotte with a very opinioned cocker spaniel named Lady Alexia Dogabitch. I have never married but am still looking.
Firebird Minerals Inc. was started after my mother’s death as a healing process to get me out of the house and back into contact with people. Its growth has proceeded to the point where I can see this becoming a successful retirement job.
However my goal is to provide contact for myself with other member of the Mineral collecting fraternity as well as provide a source for quality minerals at a reasonable price to the rest of the hobby. I view my business as an extension of my interest in minerals. When this stops being fun and becomes a job the business will go up for sale!
I am happy to talk or correspond with any collector on any subject. I freely admit that my vast knowledge of minerals can be fully inscribed on the head of a pin. However I do know a lot of collectors and can put out questions to them if there is something you want to know.
By now if you have not come to the conclusion that I am certifiably crazy take a look at the 6ft 9inch guy in the skirt and you will be convinced that I am! Join me in the adventure and let’s have some fun!
